Meetings.
At the last meeting we pencilled in the 12th May for the next meeting. That meeting has been postponed.
The suggestion was made at the last meeting that we should perhaps concentrate on one issue per meeting. The Steering Group has taken this idea on board and we will be working on a programme of meetings designed to cover specific topics from the Town Plan and attract more people into the process.
We have organised a meeting for Monday 29th June 7-30 at the Day Centre, London Road when Debra Smith who is the Manager of the Waveney Local Strategic Partnership [LSP] will talk to us about the work of the Partnership and the Waveney Sustainable Communities Strategy. This may sound rather a dry subject but the LSP will be very important in achieving particular elements of the Town Plan. Below is a quote from their website and you can judge the success of their consultations with the community if you have never heard of the Sustainable Communities Strategy?
The Government identified the need for Local Strategic Partnerships (LSP) as the best way of promoting the social, economic and environmental well-being of communities. Each district is required to have its own LSP which should work to enhance the quality of life, contribute to sustainable development, and help coordinate and shape the future action of public, private, voluntary and community organisations. "Waveney Sustainable Communities Strategy 2007-2010" is the Community Strategy for the Waveney district drawn up by the Waveney LSP. Representatives of business, voluntary, community and statutory organisations that represent our community have prepared this Strategy and consulted local people directly so that the outlined work reflects what the local community wants.
The Website.
Thanks to Tim Heaps we have a website where work in progress can be viewed and you will be able to make your own contributions. It is early days but worth a look on http://www.halesworth.net/townplan/. The plan is to make available all material that will go into making up the Town Plan on this website. We have used MediaWiki software (as used by Wikipedia) to create this website as this makes it very easy for any registered user to make changes or add comments to any page. Please do try it out and if you have any problems Tim Heaps (tim@blythweb.net or 01502 478712) will be very happy to help. Tim would also like to hear any comments or suggestions about how we might extended or improve this website.
The Audit.
The success of the Town Plan depends upon a clear understanding of our present position. This involves a simple, easy to understand description of the topic under consideration. This could be anything from affordable housing to horse riding facilities; children’s playspace to dentist provision. The description should also include any other information that is available on who provides the service and perceived benefits or deficits relating to the topic. This can sometimes be very easy to do either from your own experience or by reference to websites. For example, on the subject of waste disposal in the Town, the Suffolk County Council website provides all the information required but if you want to understand how health provision is provided in our Town do not expect to get it from our Primary Care Trust (PCT) website. Getting the audits done for all the topics remains our number one priority so if you feel inspired do take on a topic. It can be very educational!
