NIGEL HENDERSON, PAOLOZZI AND THE INDEPENDANT GROUP

on Wednesday, 11th December 2019
Venue: The Cut Arts Centre, Halesworth IP19 8BY link
American Abstract Expressionism overshadowed Britain’s place in post WWII culture. Fiona will argue that the IG group and its East Anglian member, Henderson, created an alternative, radical and much more nuanced set of ideas about the nature of Art and how artists act.
This talk connects to a Nigel Henderson exhibition running at the Tate from 2 December 2019-4 April 2020.

Cinema @ The Cut - O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? (12A)

on Wednesday, 11th December 2019
Venue: The Cut Arts Centre, Halesworth IP19 8BY link
Directors: Coen Brothers, 2000, USA, 108 mins, with George Clooney, Tim Blake Nelson, John Turturro, Holly Hunter.
How to describe this film? Based on Homer's Odyssey it's partly a musical (Bluegrass), partly screwball comedy, partly a road movie. Gorgeous George is brilliant as Everett, a convict on the run with two of his fellow prisoners. They encounter seductive sirens, a sinister cyclops in the form of a one-eyed bible salesman, while waiting at home is Everett's patient Penelope. And have you ever heard The Soggy Bottom Boys? Thought not. Well, now's your chance.
Ticket Details: Standard Ticket £6.00, Cinema Members £4.00
