COFFEE CONCERT : The Meraki Duo

Part of the 2021 Alwyn Music Festival, with Meera Maharaj, flute, and James Girling, guitar. Concert starts at 10:30am with refreshments available from 10:00am, and after the concert. This concert will last approximately one hour. No interval.
The Meraki Duo perform a programme of fresh and vibrant sounds ranging from Dvorak to the present day. As well as performing as a duo they also present works for solo flute by William Alwyn and Lloyd Moore, and selections from William Walton’s masterpiece for solo guitar, the Bagatelles.

FILM MATINEE : I SEE A DARK STRANGER

Directed by Frank Launder, 1946, with Deborah Kerr, Raymond Huntley and Trevor Howard, and with music by William Alwyn. Proud Irishwoman Bridie Quilty (Deborah Kerr) journeys to Dublin while World War II rages across Europe. During her travels she encounters J. Miller (Raymond Huntley), who recruits her as a Nazi spy. The arrival of British officer David Baynes (Trevor Howard) and his romancing of Bridie lead to unexpected consequences…

RECITAL : THE GILDAS QUARTET

Widely praised for their ‘energy, verve and refreshing approach’ the Quartet have performed at major venues to critical acclaim, and during the pandemic have continued to reach new audiences through innovative online concerts, masterclasses and presentations. This evening The Gildas Quartet present a typically vibrant, colourful programme of works by Haydn, Alwyn and Peter Dickinson, concluding with Dvořák's sparkling Piano Quintet in A major with pianist Nathan Williamson.
